Sustainability

enable people to care for themselves

The Need | LifeRise Strategy

LifeRise AIDS Resources feels urgency to relieve immediate suffering. However, we do not wish to create long-term dependency for our beneficiaries or partners. We believe that increased self-esteem and a sense of achievement proceed from attaining self-sustainability.

Therefore, while our grants provide direct services to meet acute needs, they also allow for economic strengthening for beneficiaries and the ministries that serve them to meet ongoing needs after the grant ends.

The Need

Individual Need

Individuals suffering because of HIV/AIDS may not be able to maintain their livelihoods. They descend into poverty along with their family members and their very survival is threatened.

Uncertainties of Donors

Millions of people rely on international donors and governments for AIDS treatment; millions are on waiting lists. However, these sources can be unreliable. Treatment interruptions cannot take place, or the virus becomes resistant.

Ministries Lacking Capacity

Christian organizations serving those wounded by HIV/AIDS may struggle to finance existing programs, limiting their ability to scale up for greater impact. As small organizations, they do not have entrée into the international arena to qualify for resources.

LifeRise Strategy

LifeRise projects engage in individual sustainability to help persons living with HIV/AIDS to care for themselves. We also engage in program sustainability to assist our partners to expand their services.

Individual Sustainability

LifeRise AIDS Resources projects help individuals infected with HIV/AIDS, orphans, and caregivers improve economic standing. Interventions may include: vocational training; self-help groups; income generation; appropriate technologies and household laborsaving devices; gardens; small-scale animal husbandry.

Program Sustainability

Building capacity of grass roots organizations leads them to be sustainable -- either through self-support or eligibility for other grants. LifeRise tiered grants system (see Grants) and technical support (see Technical Support) is designed to build the capacity of indigenous organizations.

Although LifeRise assistance may be considered on a small scale, we help advance Christian organizations to qualify their service programs to be competitive for larger grants from other donors.
